In times of stress, sometimes the hardest thing to do is maintain a focus on what we are grateful for. I admittedly struggle with this, too - when it feels better to vent and complain about "everything that's wrong" instead of praising and rejoicing about everything that is right.
But in reality, God wants us to be rejoicing always. In 1 Thessolonians 5:16-18, this is pretty clearly laid out for us:
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." [NIV]
When we live with gratitude in our hearts, we absolutely delight Him. God does not want to see us suffer, and he sent his only Son to die for our sins - in that, there's so much to be eternally grateful for.
So, this season (and beyond), I challenge you to begin cultivating an attitude of gratitude. This doesn't have to be hard, but with a little practice can begin to come to you as second nature. Here's how I help keep my heart grateful, instead of spiteful: (click image to access PDF)
